Unfortunately there is a gap in the passport records leaving Sao Miguel and the records which would include the days and months before November 22, 1920 are not on line. Two areas to consider searching are: Did they go to stay with a relative? Perhaps you can get immigration information on them. Did your grandmother or any of her sisters become US citizens? If they did then their naturalization petition would state where they were born and other family information. You can view them on the CCA Web site: http://goo.gl/LI4k5 In Nucleos, pick Ponta Delgada from the drop down menu. Click the Procurar button. Click on the link that contains your year and start looking. If they are not there, you will have to use other American records to find the freguesia (village) over there.
