Hi Marie -- Thanks for your note. With those surnames, and from Lajes do
Pico, it does seem likely we have one or more connections somewhere back
there...

I was going to reply privately, but then I thought there might be other
folks with Lajes do Pico ancestors who tie in as well, so we might as well
all see where there might be any connections. In my case the UMinho NEPS
or CITCEM genealogies have already done a lot of the work (although I do
intend to go back and substantiate their genealogies from the original
records), so if you have ancestors who also appear in those genealogies it
will probably be easy for us to trace at least some links, if they exist.

My entry point into the NEPS/CITCEM genealogies is my great-grandfather,
who was born Francisco Ignácio (de) Macedo in Lajes do Pico, on Mar. 9,
1858. In the US, he anglicized his name to Frank M. Enos and was known for
being the first police officer of Portuguese origin to serve in New
Bedford, MA, and as one of the founders of St. John the Baptist Church. He
was the son of José Silveira Cardoso and Maria (do) Carmo (de) Macedo.
(Sometimes they used the "do" and "de"; sometimes they didn't.)

Francisco/Frank can be found in the genealogies at this link:

Let me know if we connect anywhere!
