E" THANK YOU ! This makes so much more sense than the data on the Naturalization application ! ??? As a point of interest: The very first record I found for Manuel was the 1860 census. He was a seaman on the whaling ship Ocmulgee which was docked in Edgartown harbor on Martha's Vinyard, Mass for re provisions. Martha"s Vinyard Island is some 19 miles off the coast from New Bedford, a large whaling center. The Ocmulgee was the first ship scuttled by the Confederacy on September 5, 1862. The crew were set off in their whaling skiffs off Pico, Azores and told to "Row Home" ! I will look to find his re-entry into the US some time after September 1862. My next find was to find him in Provincetown, Mass in the 1880 census as a fisherman, with family. Again Thank you. I am most grateful for this data.
