No wonder, as you are in the time period of abbreviations.

The date says vinte e dois de 7bro mil setecentos e dez which is the 22 of
Sept 1710

I think those types of abbreviations go like this (someone correct me if
I'm wrong as I don't have access to my notebook to double check myself).
7bro = Sept
8bro = Oct
9bro = Nov
10bro = Dec

I believe they are Latin roots...Sept (septagon - 7 sided) = 7; Oct
(octagon - 8 sided) = 8; Non (nonagon - 9 sided) = 9 and Dec (decagon - 10
sided) = 10.

(And for the propeller heads in my reading audience who remember something
about that from school, a dodecagon is 12 sided.  And 11 sided is just
called an 11agon (at least in the California math books).
