Patricia P, A direct male descendant is for Y-DNA testing only. Anyone can take an mtDNA test or the autosomal - Family Finder test.
You can take the Family Finder (FF) test. But if you still have your parents, test them. Or if you still have your parents' siblings, test them. They have DNA going back 1 more generation than you do.
