My grandparents Manuel S. & Mary R. Silva lived in the
Applegate/Jordan/Whitmore area of Atwater, CA during late 1920's & 1930's.
They had a large family of 12 children.  Child #12 was Charles born 18 Dec 1928
died 17 Jan 1929.  We have funeral records showing him buried in the Winton
Cemetery but the Cemetery has no record of a Silva Site.  They did tell us a
baby was buried in Block 1 Lot 10-44. (recorded 21 Jan 1929)  The Block was
purchased by Joe F. Mello (total 7 sites).  Looking at the 1930 census we found
Joe F. Mello worked as a dairyman on Fawcett ranch.

The cemetery contacted the heir(s) with our problem but they do not want any
contact with us as they do not know us...  Or who that baby is..

I am asking if anyone who may know of my family's history and Mello's to
contact me.  We just want to honor Charles...

Mello has been a name that was constantly mentioned in the family when they
lived in Merced, Santa Clara & Alameda Counties.  My mother and all of her
sisters and brothers except for one, and he has dementia, are all gone now.

The names of the other children are:  Edith, Fred, Manuel, Harry, Helen (my
mother), Emily, Alice, Bill, Bert, Caroline, Adeline and Peter (born after
Charles died).  If anyone has any information on any of them to please contact
me.  My mother always talked fondly of Applegate School and was saddened to
learn of it being torn down.

Thank you in advance for your help,

Beverly Avila Marcelo,  Merced, CA
