Maria Elena, I think the CCA is done with the council of Ponta Delgada. If not, there's only maybe 1 or 2 more freguesias. I don't research there, but others have been posting about that.
After the council of Ponta Delgada, they have the council of Ribeira Grande (around 10 freguesias) and the council of Vila Franca (5 freguesias) to upload. Don't know when this will happen. It took most of last year year to post Ponta Delgada. So it could take a year or 2 to upload the rest of Sao Miguel. And the plan under the former director was to upload some other islands next. So that could make the uploading of the rest of Sao Miguel a few years down the line. The needle in the haystack approach is NOT a good idea for Sao Miguel. It has about 70 freguesias. That would work on Graciosa (4 freguesias) or Santa Maria (5 freguesias), but not so much on some of the other islands. You need to try the Passaportes of your ancestors and siblings LEAVING Sao Miguel (those are online at the CCA although gaps exist), and you need to chase the relative in America that has left a paper trail. Go order Maria M. Marshall's death record from Boston, Massachusetts. That death certificate could mention where she was born, it could list a Social Security number (and the application for that may say where she was born), it could mention Maria was a U.S. Citizen (and the application for that may say where she was born), or that she was not a U.S. Citizen (in which case, she would have had to file under the 1940 Smith Act - Alien Registration - green card, and the application for that asks where born). My how to guide full of ideas of where else to look in America is here: http://goo.gl/8q6FK3 Mike Gilfilan (sp) of this list methodically went through the how to guide and uncovered some of his ancestors that way. I don't remember how long it took him, but he found the freguesia on some of them in a matter of months.
