Pam, Yes, it comes and goes. For a time, recently, I could view my ancestry sourced records. I thought, "wow, they are finally getting a clue!". Then, about two weeks ago, it stopped working again. They are very inconsistent. If I pay to access records, they should remain open to me through their interface.
The one that really gets me is that they charge for access to member posted content. I recently found the probate records for my great great grandfather (he died intestate). This has been key since we have no other records indicating his death. The final settlement includes all living children and the children of those that had already passed (if they had heirs). A real boon for researchers! In any case, the records came from FamilySearch and were free. They were NOT indexed and it took me a while of cross referencing to find them (I'm still missing one inventory, but that's another story). So, I post this to Ancestry.com. Anybody who wants to add these records MUST be a paying subscriber. In effect, Ancestry is reselling my work. My results will show up in searches for "William Hardin Hickman", but they must pay to see my translation and attach the record. This really burns me! Not only do I not get access to other records, but I must pay to collaborate with other researchers on Ancestry. Makes me mad enough to take my tree private! I really need to find an easy way to post my full tree, with records, for public consumption. Sorry, I get a bit hot about Ancestry.com even though I'm a user.
