Aaron, The Basic Portuguese Paleography not only has the Surnames and given names but it has a section for Unfamilier and Latin terms. Be sure and pay lots of attention to that section! There are terms to look for in the documents that really help you so that you won’t have to read every line!

I did not know of this. I'm up in the wee small hours of the morning pouring through it. That's why I love this group, so much information and helpful people, all pretty much working towards the same goal. Even though I am relatively new to this, I feel like this is such an exciting time to study family history. With so many records becoming more accessible through digitization and groups like this that connect people from all over the world, working on one big family history project. I remember my mom working on genealogy back in the early 90's and she would have to wait months and months to receive a document, or a letter telling her no record was found. Great times! You all have a good day. In it, it has a list of Surnames and also a list of Given names. I’ve found it invaluable in figuring out names when I’m stumped! Learning new names and places everyday. I logged on from work, but I wanted to say a quick thank you for the help.
