Thank you so much. Hopefully I can get to understanding it better. I had
to stop due to carpal tunnel in both hands. I had shots a few weeks ago to
ease the pain, so I am hoping I can get back to being able to do this again

cant figure out if grandparents are listed or who the two women are?

Sallie,

"Jose (Joseph) son of Simao Pereira and of his wife Maria da Cunha naturals and
clients of this Parish Church of Nossa Senhora das Neves in the place of Norte
Grande island of S. Jorge. Born on the 11th day of the month of February 1741
and baptised on the 13th of the said month and year.............
Godparents Jose (Joseph) Nunes married to Catarina Silveira and Barbara de
Sousa married to Jose (Joseph) de Sousa Machado, naturals and clients of this
same church.

Yes, that's what it means casado/married. The date, the year is 1741. One is
um (hum is old writing)

No, at this point they were not recording the grandparents' names.

Trying to remember how to read this, found a cheat sheet of sorts online, but
I see Catharina Silveria and Barbara De Sousa .. are they related? or are they
witnesses to the baptism? I saw Casado a few times, and that (from cheat sheet
means married, right?)
I figured out the date to be February 11 1749 (IF I got it right)

The cheat sheet I used is at
https://familysearch.org/learn/wiki/en/Portuguese_Genealogical_Word_List

What I see is Joseph, son of Simao Pereira D Sousa and Maria D Cunha Feb
11 1747 Baptism and the rest is pretty much up in the air.. lol.

Does it say who the grandparents are? I have no clue if that is there or
not, or if that is the Catharina and Barbara.. maybe?

  Thank you..
  Sallie
