Thanks JR, I have seen many references to Divino Espirito Santo of Maia in the
baptismal records. I will try to find the Maia records through FamilySearch. I
have not delved into that form of research yet, still working the free CCA
website.

The records for Furnas prior to the date you mention are kept in Maia. You will
see the many references to Furnas, and sometimes it is noted right in the
margin of a record. If you can't find a record, check also Lomba da Maia (had
its own church circa 1812 or so) and the three churches linked to Ribeira
Grande. You will also see many references to Fenais da Ajuda and Ponta Garca.

I am sure there are some members of this group that are experienced at
researching records from Furnas, Povoação, São Miguel. I am looking for
marriage records prior to 1825. On the CCA website, baptisms start in 1757,
marriages in 1825 and obits in 1812. Did marriages and obits get recorded in
another freguesia before those years? Or are they simply not available on the
CCA website? If that is the case, are they available through the Family History
Library?

Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge!
