Hi Manny,

I am not looking at any records right now when I answer you.
The reason is that the treasurer is quite often the padrinho or witness for many children in every village.
Sure, he could be the real father, but probably no more likely than anyone else.

Hello,

Does anyone have information on Manuel d'Avila de Bettencourt, church treasurer for at least these years 1843, 1856, 1857 & 1860?

I'm seeing him as the "padrinho" (godfather) for a few children that were baptized without a father.  Was he the father of the out of wedlock children or because he held a high position within the town?

Thank you,

Manny
