I'd need to see a link to the record, as in the mid-1800s the format
changed.  But if you are reading a first name, then you are in the time
period where it reads, Maria, daughter legitimate of Manoel de Mello and
Maria da Conceição.

The CCA has birth, marriage, and death online for Faial.

You may want to try the NEPS/CITCEM site (searchable database) and then
find the actual record on the CCA.
