I just now joined the group so I could contact you. My Great Grandfather was Jose Francisco Machado 1809-1898, from Pico in the Azores. He also wore a gold earring. You mentioned that you had a photo that showed it. I would love to see that photo. Could you share it? My father was a sculptor, he did a bust of the description given him to what Machado looked like. I'd be happy to share that image with you in return.
