Diane, I'm coming into this conversation rather late, so forgive me. You mentioned Candelaria, Pico which is where my grandmother was born and raised. Her family was in Candelaria for several generations. (How many is hard to know as there are gaps in the records so it's a difficult place to research. ) Some family members married into families from Sao Mateus. If you need any help or simply want to compare notes, feel free to contact me. Having said that, I'm undergoing surgery next week and will be offline for at least 1 or 2 weeks, so no response should not be interpreted as lack of interest.
