Hi Cheri,

- Maria de Jesus lives with their parents at CAMINHO DA FAJÃ.

- Côrte de Lisboa – in the main land (most probably at Lisbon – “Corte” has to
do with the place where the king was)

- BOATERRA or BOAVENTURA? According to my data it should be Boaventura… it
looks like a typo…

- the word “serva” makes it look like if she was a (now a free woman) slave…

- the “syneiro/sineiro” was the (very important) person who was charged of the
bells… remember this was the “communication broadcasting” center J: fire,
pirates attacks, death, hours to go home (trindades)... all kinds of warnings!

- There are no unnecessary names. It was not a common “assento”. One may see
that the priest had to make the identification very clear because of this
particular event that was of many detail.

Hope it helps,

OK, so how much wine did this priest have??? He doesn't specify legitimate son
or not. Or if he just forgot the father. But the priest remembers to make sure
that the bell ringer has a legitimate wife! He put everyone else in too. Wish
he was the priest for my brickwall when they were being godparents, as I would
know who their parents were then! And I saw the ja de f.a and thought ja
defuncta, but it was in the wrong place. Never heard of Boaterra either, but I
couldn't make it look like Boaventura. I'll take another look. I wonder if
Lisbon's Court is a place in Graciosa (I don't research there) or if they mean
the continent.

Thanks for your help!

Cheri

Cheri,

See highlighted words:

We've got he's the son of Maria Roza, and she's the daughter of Antonio da
Cunha and his legitimate wife, already deacesed Maria de Jesus, living in this
Parish Church of Nossa Senhora da Luzin of Graciosa, residing in Faja do Campo
of incognito Father. Got his birth and baptism dates and the priest. Not sure
about the 6 or so words before the godparent sentence begins. The godparents
were Manuel Ignacio de Bettencourt, native of this (dta) dita of the said
(referring to place and island) and residing in Lisbon’s Court (King’s place)
and Perpetua Rosa, daughter of Boaventura Correia, already deceased and of his
wife (q foi / that was) Maria da Cunha de Vasconcelos, servent of Manuel
Correia de Quadros residing at Campo da Faja of this said church parish. They
answered as above, blah blah blah, then padrinho is hyphenated and it says
Francisco (!) son of Manuel Correia de Mello, (sineiro) bell ringer of this
parish church, and of his legitimate wife Ignacia Josefa Maria de Jesus, in
this day, month and year.

This baptismal has lots of stuff squished in and way too many people involved.

Verissimo, bottom right.

We've got he's the son of Maria Roza, and she's the daughter of Antonio da
Cunha and his legitimate? wife, "ja de filha (abbreviated)?" Maria ^de Jesus
squished above, living in this Parish Church of Nossa Senhora da Luzin
Graciosa, and squished again is living something....faja, then comes and of pai
incognito. Got his birth and baptism dates and the priest. Not sure about the
6 or so words before the godparent sentence begins. The the godparents were
Manuel Ignacio de Bettencourt, native of this ____ (is that an abbreviation for
freguesia?), then it looks almost like the abbreviation for wife, of the Corte
de Lisboa (huh?) and of Perpetua Rosa, daughter of Boaterra (?) Correia, he's
dead?, and of his wife _____ Maria da Cunha de Vasconcelos, something Manuel
Correia de Quadros (??) living on the something of the faja of this something
church parish. They answered as above, blah blah blah, then padrinho is
hyphenated and it says Francisco (?) something Manuel Correia de Mello,
something about the parish church, the of his wife Ignacia Josefa Maria de
Jesus, then something about the referenced month and year.

Too many people on this record and a bit squishy. He must have had some quick
acting wine though, because he squished only in the beginning of the document.
It wore off after 4 lines or so! LOL
