"E",
The compatibility mode should be used for installation.  The setup files (if on
CD) will need to be copied to your hard drive before you can change the
properties as instructed below.  You might also select to run as administrator
(another checkbox) just to make sure things go smoothly (fewer prompts for
permission).
Run the installation program in compatibility mode:1. Right-click the
installation file's icon.2. Click Properties > Compatibility .3. Select the
compatibility mode for Windows XP.4. Click OK .5. Run the installation program.
After it's installed, run the program in Windows XP compatibility mode by doing
the same with the installed program (right-click on the shortcut for FTM).
Hopefully you've already solved this.
Bill

Elaine,I have a couple of old programs that I like to use for 3D drawing but
they were written for Win 98. When I installed it to my computer with Win7
there is an option called Compatibility mode which makes your computer act as
if it’s running the older windows program that your FTM 16 is Compatible with.
I just had to select the correct one. You need to open the properties on FTM 16
and select the Compatibility box, then check the box for run in compatibility,
then on the drop down list select the version of windows it last ran for
you.This should get you going, hopefully I didn’t miss a step.Mike

FTM 16 Problem Elaine, when I bought the computer I am now using in 2013, I
asked if FTM 16 would work with it.  I have Microsoft 2010 and my FTM 16 does
work with it.  However, when I had a similar problem when a worm invaded my
computer, I could not get FTM 16 to run for me.  I had the computer guy from
Staples come and he was able to get it installed.  Don't know how he did it and
hope the worms go somewhere else! I understand entirely how you feel about the
new version of FTM.  It is just too complicated and I don't like the index on
the page all the time.  I guess as we "mature" we don't want to give up what
works for us. Hope you find a solution to your FTM 16 viewing.Celeste Celeste

I have been using FTM 16 for a long time.  Very happy with it and last
uploaded it to my new computer February 2013.  No problem.  Well I got
a worm or something in the computer and had to totally re-install
Windows 7 (bought Windows 7 because it supported FTM 16!!) and all my
programs.  I have had no problems reloading any of the other programs
I have except FTM 16.  When I try to install it, they tell me they no
longer support it and won't let me upload it and tell me I have to get
the new version.  Problem is, I don't want the new version.  I will
gladly pay them for the new version BUT i want FTM 16, the one I am
used to.  I have enough problems at this age to figure out what I am
doing half the time and don't want to learn a new program, don't know
if everything I have in FTM will upload to the new program and am not
a happy camper.

Anyone else have/had this problem and is there any solution in my
favor at all?  I do intend to contact FTM tomorrow and ask but am
hoping I can get some input from someone else who have/had this
problem.

Thank you.
