Okay,

I am finding out the the DNA of some Azoreans is showing that we have a
very diverse background. I was doing some research today on the the
Flemish, they are recorded in some sources as 1,500 in the Azores by 1490.
Bruges if I recall is the city that is believed to have provided most
settlers to the Azores. Even though it was founded by Vikings, by the
1300's it was an international trade city with many Scottish, Italian,
Germany, Portuguese, and Spanish traders doing business there along with
others which makes for quite a mixture.

I have seen some people's my Origins results from the central islands in
the Azores and in some cases it is showing only about 50% Southern Europe
and when you spit that up with again with primarily Northern European
admixture the Portuguese gets drowned out.

I think that myOrigins has a long way to go I really questioned my mothers
2% Central East African results at first but I took a look at the L
haplogroups in Pico and they point to East Africa also there a 4 MtDNA M1's
in the Azores those are most frequently found in Ethiopia. The history
shows that Portugal played a huge role at one time in Ethiopia starting in
the 1520's, over 200 Portuguese soldiers ended up settling there marrying
local women and later on there was a huge missionary effort to convert the
local Ethiopian Christians to Catholicism. Ask any Portuguese who has lived
in Africa the Clergy have been well known for centuries for fathering
children with African women.

Anyway sorry for going off on a tangent by many people of Azorean ancestry
have a very diverse background even though the Portugal is recorded as
being the primary source of settlers some people are coming out with very
interesting autosomal results but the Mtdna and Y-DNA result are also
backing that up. Although I agree that 1% Iberian result is very suspect.
