Does anyone know when surnames became standardized in Portuguese- Azorean Public Records ? The recent posts about surnames is a big help because I had assumed children had the Father's surname and sometimes the middle name was the Mother's Father's name. This research is all new to me and I had no idea a child when an adult could choose a surname other than the Father's.George Michael Medeiros Jr.
