The Genealogy Forum.com is ancient. That's from AOL days. All the current
stuff is on the Azores GenWeb at:
http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~azrwgw/

The how to trace your ancestors is here:
http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~azrwgw/HowTo.html

There's a naming practices article too:
http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~azrwgw/naming.html

It's dangerous to surmise anything. You ancestor was born Jose. That is
all. To a father named Jose Francisco or Jose Francisco Ramos or Francisco
Ramos and to a woman name Victoria ______. You won't find her maiden name.
She didn't have one. Only a middle name, usually religious. We don't
translate the names. It is what it is. People live in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Not in Saint Faith, New Mexico. That would sound strange. We don't
translate it here, so don't translate it there.

However, these names will be a rather moot point unless you find the
freguesia your ancestor came from. You need to find that. Then you will
figure out the name. They will be more consistent there than in America.
