I would definitely encourage you to upload to GedMatch.com. I have done so and it is very useful and has helped me make and confirm links. I would not be concerned about your DNA data being out on the Internet as it's not possible for others to download it. I have kits on Ancestry and FTDNA and really prefer the better tools on GedMatch.
