Hi Liz, I don't know if my transcription "oultimo" is correct, and I don't know if that's an archaic spelling or if it's particular to the priest. "Ultimo" is the Portuguese word for "last" or "latest".
As Bill pointed out, the record most likely says "bautizado na pia desta parochia", and "pia" is a basin, that is, the baptismal font. "P.ra" can be the abbreviation for "primeira", but in this case, I made an error, and it probably is not. Sometimes the records will say "na primeira desta mez", meaning "the first [day] of the month"-- I jumped to that hasty conclusion. :) hope that's helpful, Linda On Thursday, February 18, 2016 at 1:15:56 PM UTC-8, Lizmig wrote: > > so oultimo means last or last day of ? > and p.ra desta would mean first or first day of? > thx > liz > > On Thu, Feb 18, 2016 at 9:49 AM, linda <[email protected] <javascript:>> > wrote: > >> >> I think you're right about the father's name. >> >> The mother's name might be Domingas Pereira? >> >> Maria da Rosa is the name of the godfather's wife. >> >> I think Antonio was born on the last day of Dec ("oultimo"?) and was >> baptised on the first of Jan ("p.ra desta"). >> >> Difficult record for me :) >> >> L. >> >> >> On Thursday, February 18, 2016 at 8:25:02 AM UTC-8, Lizmig wrote: >>> >>> >>> http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/FAL-HT-CEDROS-B-1708-1716/FAL-HT-CEDROS-B-1708-1716_item1/P98.html >>> >>> 2nd down on left. >>> Is this Antonio son of Manoel Pereria Mendonca? born Dec ?? 1714 and >>> baptised Jan ? 1715 >>> Is his mother Maria da Rosa? >>> Any other names? >>> >>> Liz >>> >> -- >> For options, such as changing to List, Digest, Abridged, or No Mail >> (vacation) mode, log into your Google account and visit this group at >> http://groups.google.com/group/Azores.
