I've seen "Dona So-and-so" , without further identification, when going through Terceira records. It struck me as anomalous too. I thought that perhaps the Dona in question needed no other identification-- i.e., writing her name in that way revealed an unconscious assumption: "everyone one knows [of] "Dona So-and-so"'. Pure speculation, but thought I'd throw it out there.
