Hi Sandra, are you in the U.S.? If you think about what travel was like between the American colonies and Europe in the mid 1700's, then you can get a fairly good idea of how easy it was to travel between the Azores and Lisbon. It was perhaps more unusual than difficult. To my mind, travel to Lisbon suggests someone who was involved in commerce, the military, or who might have been there for his education.
