HI Eric - I'm thinking the Louise Souza living with Luiza D Souza in the
1910 Census is not the right person. My grandmother would have been named
Louise Evangelho, not Souza. Also, my grandmother's mother (my mystery
Maria/Mary) died when she was 2, and her father returned to the Azores to
remarry (and never return). He left Louise in the care of the Evangelho
family (his relatives) who lived in either Madera or Fresno county at the
time - 1904ish - and they raised her. I don't recall any stories of
Maria's parents being alive or living in California; so I'm thinking the
one in the census is just a coincidental name. At least that's my theory
for now!
