Hi Wendy, I'm new to FTDNA, but it looks like you and your grandmother match my mom and me. Two of my mom's grandparents were born on Flores, and I have their lines sketched out to about the mid 1700's/early 1800's. Our connection might be beyond the range of the existing records, but I'm happy to help look for a connection. We have Mendonca and Freitas, among other names, in our tree too.
If you haven't already got the Flores/Corvo marriage book, I highly recommend it: https://www.amazon.com/Casais-das-Flores-Corvo-Portuguese-ebook/dp/B00AQAOOF6 It's a searchable index of all the marriage records from the two islands.
