Hi Deb,

I think the connotation of the note is that the two children were found at 
the couple's house and not necessarily taken in by them.  Perhaps a native 
speaker could shed some light on the nuances of the meaning.  Otherwise, 
one could check their obits for their ages and then their baptismal records 
to see what they say.
