Manuel, There was supposedly a 'presense' in Bermuda by Portuguese prior to 1849, some mention of a Jose Manuel (no place or origin given) in the 1830's. Three deaths mentioned in the *Royal Gazette *Feb 1834 of a Emanuel Jose De Sawza. This Portuguese had been a resident of St. Georges for many years prior to his death in 1834. Another living in Bermuda at the same time was Joseph Manuel but neither of them have a place of nativity named. Then in 1849 came the arrival of the Mdeirans. I don't see any particular mention of anyone from the Azores. Then the rest of the chapters just list marriage, births, deaths by years.
