An "a" is feminine or female and an "o" is masculine or male. So Velho or Pacheco are on men's names and Velha or Pacheca are on women's names.
With the diacritics (José, Conceição) you have to export it as ANSI or ANSEL. João who does the computer programming and the Tombo.pt site can probably explain better.
