Hi,
I've recently come across the records for passport applications from the
1770s ... I believe it was uploaded not that long ago? I thought I'd have a
look to see if I could find my ancestor's name there and much to my
surprise, there's an entry with his name in it ... or it could just be
someone else with the same name :-/.
>From what I understand, the application may give information about the
individual's residence, occupation, destination, etc, and I'd really
appreciate if someone could give me a hand with reading the record ...
beautifully and neatly written as it is, it still looks like squiggly lines
to me :-(
The details of the individual - Name: Antonio Goncalves Cordeyro ('i' and
'y' often interchanged). I believe the middle name is not mentioned in the
passport application. Born in 1753 in Biscoitos, Terceira but was living
elsewhere by around 1780 (I have noted that the passport application was
made in Jul 1773).
The record is here:
http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/PASSAPORTES-TER-1770-1775/PASSAPORTES-TER-1770-1775_item1/P92.html
(second entry on left hand side)
I've also also attached my attempt to come up with a slightly clearer image
- not sure if I've succeeded. Understanding this record would mean so much
to us.
Thank you.
Giovanni
