Hi!

All the details are in the post. The newspaper is not on line. The name is A
Persuasão. It was published in the 19th century, Ponta Delgada. I found the
information in Escavações, of Francisco Maria Supico.

I am sorry I do not have the old post I did so I could see what I posted there.
I remember I found it because someone from the list was from Porto Formoso.

Muito Obrigado,

Eliseu Pacheco da Silva

Lily to Australia

Eliseu,

Are you able to provide any details on the newspaper, that name of paper and
date of issue? Alternately are you able to direct me to another site that may
have it? Regards, Tony

Hello Eliseu,

My great grandfather was Manoel Amaranté (mistakenly listed below as Manuel
Amarante) and he came from the town of Manadas, Sao Jorge so I'm very keen to
understand the source document of your post. I was aware he came out on the
"Water Lily" but haven't been able to find much more than that. What else can
you tell me about the expedition? Also I'm wondering whether your location of "
Fores Crick mines" should or could be Forest Creek Mine? Forest Creek near
Castlemaine, Victoria was a well known goldfields area that was dotted with
mines and small individual "claims" often referred as "diggings". My
g/grandfather obviously moved on from the "expedition" as I have found records
of him in other goldfield areas of Victoria eventually settling down in place
called Wattle Creek where he operated a quartz crusher for a time before
marrying and becoming a farmer. Hope to hear from you. Regards, Tony.
