Hi Anna,

The stamps have nothing to do with leaving the Azores. My ancestors were 13
and 16 when they left. They have no stamps on their baptisms.

If I remember correctly, a fee needed to be paid when a couple married. If
the family had some money, the fee was paid. If not, it was recorded that
the family was too poor.

Those with a better understanding of the history and laws of the time
period can explain more.

Right now, I'd say your ancestors were better off than most in their
freguesia/village.  Cheri
