Joy, There's a Ponta Delgada on Sao Miguel island and another on Flores island.
On both islands, Ponta Delgada can refer to the city itself, or the county/province. Since you believe you have the birth date, search the baptisms on line at the Azores government site, the CCA. Start with the city itself, then move to the other churches outside the city, but within the council (county/province). https://tombo.pt/en/d/acores Pick the island from the left column, then the council of Ponta Delgada, then start looking for every Joao born on 25 May 1847.
