Cheri Mello, My grandmother on my father's side was Mary Medeiras, oldest daughter of Manuel Cabaral Medeiras. He left Faial on October 1st, 1889 on the ship Sarah and disembarked on Boston Harbor, and settled in either Fall River or New Bedford. Mary was his oldest, with 2 younger sisters Fanny, and Victoria. My grandmother always said she and her sisters were born in New Bedford. After she met my grandfather, Manuel Rego Vital, they all moved to Oakland. My grandmother worked at the cannery and my grandfather was a carpenter. His brother Frank also married one of my grandmothers sister, I believe Victoria. Manuel died in 1936 and Mary lived till 1973. Regards, Larry Vital
