Liz, As far as I remember, some had problems and some didn't. As for a recommendation, you will have to get what you like and what appeals to you. I could tell you about this great restaurant by my house, but my neighbor may tell you it was lousy.
You didn't say what FTM version you had. Kathy Cardoza evaluated one of the versions. It's in the archive. She probably labeled it pretty clearly, so if you search for "Family Tree Maker" and see the post was by Kathy Cardoza, that's the one you want.
