Hi I have been looking for my family in Terceira, in the village of Ribeirinha. I was looking through death records from 1890 to 1899, and in the year of 1898 I came across death Record #49 (and there is two pages) for Maria Evangelho, that was married to Francisco Jose Bettencourt, it also shows that she is the daughter of Joao Goncalves (looks to be) Couta and mother is (looks to be) Luzia Evangelho.
Now here is my questions, one of the surname I am researching is Evangelho, no I know that some types a female is given another name and it sometimes used over and over, but I am wondering why the Evangelho name, for both daughter and Mother, is it possible they wanted to keep the Evangelho name or was it used for another reason. I asking to see if someone else has came across this. I know where the Male has used the mother’s last name as his last name but I have not come across it with the Mother and Daughter either keeping that last name, or am I looking at this wrong? Here is the two pages of the link http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/TER-AH-RIBEIRINHA-O-1890-1899/TER-AH-RIBEIRINHA-O-1890-1899_item1/P143.html http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/TER-AH-RIBEIRINHA-O-1890-1899/TER-AH-RIBEIRINHA-O-1890-1899_item1/P144.html It is item #49 bottom of the page and goes to the next page.
