I'm looking for information about my Amaranté ancestry from Manadas, Sao Jorge.
To the best of my understanding, I believe my Amaranté ancestry most likely originates from the Amarante family in Velas and starting with a Gonçalo de Amaranté who married Francisca de Oliveira. I have no information on the date of this marriage but it was probably around 1580s. Again, based on no evidence, I would suggest this Gonçalo was possibly born circa 1560s and was the son of Gonçalo de Amaranté. Gonçalo de Amaranté who married Francisca de Oliveira had a son Jorge de Oliviera Amaranté who married Iria Vieira Azevedo and they had at least six children, five sons and a daughter. Again, without clear evidence, I believe one of these sons had a relationship with a woman by the name of Catarina Simao (my 7th Great grandmother) and that from this relationship Maira de Amaranté was born. While Maira de Amaranté's father is unknown there is very strong evidence to suggest there is a connection to the Amarante family in Velas, with several of Maria's children's godparents being from or connected to the Amarante family in Velas. Does any of the above mean anything to anyone? Also, just as a matter of interest, my DNA results are on Ancestry as well on the GEDmatch DNA website. My GEDmatch kit number is A231342. Drop me line if you think there is a match. Cheers, Tony Amarant -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Azores Genealogy" group.
