Just a couple of thoughts when applying dates.
When you have a baptism date and you want to apply a birth date it is more appropriate to use “about” or “circa”. That generally means the date is close to that date and by adding a note the date is based on the baptism. The more complete date you use with the term “about” or “circa” the more precise it is. Consider these two dates: “abt 1828” and “abt 2 Mar 1828”. The latter has a more precise meaning. The use of “before” is open-ended and could mean a few days to years. I generally use the term “before” when I encounter a person named as deceased as in a marriage or baptismal record, you know the person died but you do not know if it was the day before or ten years before.
