Hi Leonor,
Could the men with the same name be first cousins?
I am also of Italian origin and apart from the names Saverio Saturno and Andrea
Saturno repeating 7 or eight generations (older son gets paternal grandfather’s
name), sometimes if a man had 3 or 4 sons they could all name their first born
son after their father resulting with 3 or 4 boys with the same or very similar
name (In Italy it’d be the same as maternal surnames are not passed down as in
Portugal).
I also have a branch in which no less than 5 boys, all first cousins, were
named Giovanni like grandpa, but since only one of the 5 siblings of the
previous generation were male, only 1 Giovanni had exactly the same name as
their grandfather.
I personally know of other 3 Italian first cousins with exactly the same name
and similar age. They are about 85 years old now.
Hope this helps
Happy hunting,
Marcos

Thanks Cheri.

I actually started to go record by record a while back. I started because I
noticed that some of my ancestors were taking on their father's first name as
their last (Nicolau do Rego's sons became Joao do Rego Nicolau, etc.). For now,
what I am doing is going through the records and everyone that fits in my tree
goes in my tree, it doesn't matter if they are the brother in law of the sister
in law of the husband of my 2x GG (I have lots of time). On occasion, those
people suddenly become blood related. As you may remember, I only started doing
this in January, this way makes sense to me now but it may cause chaos later
on, please let me know if you see any issues with doing this way. I have
created a database for when I come upon a record that I know should fit in my
tree but doesn't yet. Looking at the database, I have 1 João born to a Jacintho
Bernardo and Jacintha Rosa in 1869 and 1 João born to Jacintho Bernardo and
Jacintha Rosa in 1877. I am going to finish extracting birth records for 1897
and will start looking at marriage records to see what I can find to make sense
of this.

You said "Kid #1 doesn't have maternal grandparents that match the other kids."
I don't think any of the maternal grandparents match. I have not found a Maria
#1 yet.

Hello everyone,
While I know that it is very common for a couple to have multiple daughters
with the same name, I have never come across more that one son with the same
name, unless one died before the other was born. Below I have 3 couples where
the father's name is João Bernardo, they are different couples (different
wives). The paternal grandparents look to be the same. The paternal
grandmother's name changes but the first name stays consistent, to make matters
worse, two of the mothers seem to be sisters. Is having 3 sons with the same
name normal? Counting the 3 Joãos, this couple would have had 8 kids, not
enough to run out of names!
