Hi Gordon,

The Portuguese genealogy conference is the 4th week of June. Although, that
my be a lot of going and going in one month.

AncestryDNA has a larger database than FTDNA so yes, you will have more 1st
and 2nd cousin matches there. However, because of their customized chip,
they have LESS 4th and distant matches. FTDNA will have more of those
cousins.

AncestryDNA and FTDNA are two different companies. Just like Toyota and
Ford are 2 different car makers. So you have to ask your 1st and 2nd
cousins on AncestryDNA to transfer over to FTDNA. Let them know that the
transfer and matching is free. Tell them it's fishing for cousins in
another pond. If they want the tools and the ethnicity ESTIMATE from FTDNA,
then they pay the $19. You don't need to pay, as you have already done so.

Copy and paste these transfer directions for them.

1) Download the raw data from Ancestry DNA:
https://support.ancestry.com/s/article/Downloading-Raw-DNA-Data-1460089696533

2) While waiting for the file to be compiled and emailed, create an account
on FTDNA:
https://www.familytreedna.com/autosomal-transfer

3) Download the raw data file that is in the email. Hopefully, it downloads
to the Download folder or the Desktop.

4) AncestryDNA changed their chip again and it's incompatible. Use this
converter tool:
http://www.mapmy23.com/tools/ancestry_ftdna_fix.php

5) Upload the raw data to the FTDNA page. Then join the Azores DNA project.

            i) Log into the FTDNA page with the kit number and password.

ii) Across the top is says: myFTDNA, DNA Tests, Projects....Point at
Projects. When the drop down menu appears, click "Join a project."

iii) If the Azores Islands appears on the top, click the link and scroll
down to the JOIN button at the end.

iv) If the Azores Islands is not suggested, scroll down to where it says
"Search by Surname" and type: azores.

             v) When Azores Islands appears, click the link and follow the
directions.
Thanks, Cheri Mello, Family Tree DNA Admin (volunteer), Azores DNA Project
