Hi Gordon, OK, I can't remember all the particulars. You may want to start the thread over with a new post to the list and call it Searching for Jacinto (Jesse) Ferreria, b. XXXX, Sao Miguel island. Put what you've found, what has turned up nothing for you, etc.
For now, I would suggest chasing Maria (the wife) around, or Manuel, their son around. Something may turn up when you go the long way around. Your estimates for your Jesse's ages may be off or your immigration dates may be off, or Jesse isn't immigrating under the name of Jacinto Ferreira, he's coming in under Jacinto Misterioso or some alcunha you don't know about yet (I'm trying to be funny with the "misterioso" word). I looked at your DNA and the tree you have posted at FTDNA. You have 3 distinct lines. Your paternal side appears to be Pico. Your maternal side appears to Sao Miguel and mainland Portugal. Since your Jacinto was born to parents from the mainland, you may be able to separate this line out. You need to test your first cousins on your maternal side first. And you need to work your DNA matches. If you know how you match them, then activate the parental matching. It doesn't matter what side. You have to work from the known to the unknown, no matter how much you want to focus on your Jesse. You have to work with what you have at hand and the moment. I will be at a genealogy conference all weekend. FTDNA is a vendor and will have show prices. I will post to the list when I find out the pricing.
