Please, Google/Wiki for "firmware". * Both chipsets need firmware * Both firmwares are not open sourced * Both firmwares are executed on device (not on your machine) RTL818X card has firmware embedded on device. Broadcom needs system to send firmware to card. Not much difference for me.
