This Bay Area Biosystematists meeting brings together people interested
in thriving as high throughput sequencing-generation projects enter the
university environment.
Featuring a diverse and distinguished panel of discussants, followed by
vigorous audience discussion. Panel members representing different areas
of genome research and approaches to data management and analysis will
give short presentations (this following a Mexican Meal).
*Panel:*
*Bryan Barney*, PhD Candidate, Hopkins Marine Lab, Stanford University.
Theme: Transcriptomics in non-model organisms, highlighting the
practical tools now available.
*Dr Paul Wolber*, Director at Agilent Technologies, and an Adjunct
Professor at SJSU. Dr Wolber has designed a course in Next Generation
Sequencing for Engineers, which is fostering diverse collaboration.
*Dr Alexandra Z. Worden*, a senior researcher at the Monterey Bay
Aquarium Institute (MBARI). Dr Worden has pioneered genome sequencing in
uncultivated micro-algae to develop knowledge of the ocean ecosystem and
carbon cycling.
*Dr Jordan Stockton*, Illumina, will talk about exciting here and
upcoming approaches to managing data through the online Cloud.
Schedule and venue:
5:30 - social gathering and informal Mexican dinner.
Cost: $15, to be collected at the door
7:00 – Talks followed by discussion in Duncan Hall, Room 208
