I think thats an interesting distinction.
I'm glad that Jefferson didn't say "As in all things I'm a 
muddled,hand-wringing liberal who believes in a mixed economy ... humans 
aregreat heaps of inconsistency, ambiguity and complexity".
Jefferson owned slaves and got slavery abolished. He was inconsistent,but he 
wasn't hypocritical, because he criticised slavery at everyturn - he didn't say 
"owning slaves is basically okay, its kind ofwrong, but then slave traders need 
to pay their mortgages, I thinkfree people and enslaved people can coexist." He 
said "slavery iswrong, and no one should have slaves. I have slaves because 
thats howrich people live right now, but no one should have them."
If Fry said "proprietary software is wrong, and no one should use it.I use it 
because thats how people live right now, but no one shouldhave to" that would 
be inconsistent.
But he hasn't said that, so what he says is hypocritical.
