Worldwide has begun trialling behavioural targeting across its portfolio of
magazine sites.

The BBC's commercial arm has appointed behavioural targeting specialist
AudienceScience to collect and analyse data on users visiting its sites so it
can serve them with relevant advertising.

The technology is running across the Radio Times and will be extended to sites
such as, Top Gear and Gardeners' World next week.

BBC Worldwide also plans to work with AudienceScience to implement behavioural
targeting across its international site BBC.com
...
Claude London, director of digital media at BBC Worldwide, said the move into
behavioural targeting had been prompted by the "economic situation" which had
meant the media company needed to be "more creative" to protect its online
revenues.

BBC Worldwide has updated its web pages to include a clear section about its
privacy and cookies policy, explaining behavioural targeting is and how it
tracks users.

London said it was important to offer straightforward information about
behavioural targeting including how users can opt-out.
