I have been pondering that route -- I don't particularly like FOI requests, mind. the staff in that dept are very nice, but they do wield a hefty stick on everyone else, and I don't like making (much) trouble unless there's a pressing reason... we'll see how it goes. some off-the-record gesticulation would probably be easiest to get.
