Depends what you mean by a 'channel redirect'.

A HD_Simulcast_Logical_Channel_descriptor can be inserted in the NIT
which allows an SD channel to be substituted with a HD simulcast one, so
it will appear in the LCN position of the SD service. Someone else on
the list might be able to say if it actually gets used or not, as I've
not got a T2 receiver I can't take a look at the SI to see if it's
there.

Also an SD/HD event linkage can be placed in the EIT, so that the
receiver knows a given event is also available in HD. These are present
on Freesat, as if you try and record anything on BBC One or ITV1 now
(that isn't regional) on the office Humax receiver - it asks you if you
want to record the HD version instead. There's nothing in the D Book
that I can see instructing manufactures what to do with the linkage
info, so an auto redirect to a HD simulcast probably could be
implemented in receiver software using the existing EIT data. But it's
down to individual manufacturers to do it.

Me too! Why oh why wasn't an automatic channel redirect
included in the original Freeview spec? I can think of several use cases
for that feature.

I've been going on about that since 1998. You would think that
they could do it via MHEG5 on Freeview HD at the very, very least.
