Hi! I've installed BackupPC in the company I work for for over a year now and it works great. It's used to backup Linux, Windows and Unix (Irix) machines. I use LTO-2 tape drive for archiving once a week. As the amount of data grows manually changing many tapes is not practical any more. Only two things are really missing: backing up of ACL's and extended attributes; managing tape archives. The former could be tackled in a similar way as in rdiff-backup maybe but at the moment I'm more interested in the latter.
I'm about to buy a new tape autoloader and would like to find someone literate in Perl and interested in implementing (multi)tape archives in BackupPC. I'm planning to write shell scripts using mtx command set which would manage the drive and the tape loader but I don't know how to implement that in Perl and in BackupPC so I'd need help with it. Is there anyone interested in it or maybe there is already something on the same line that I missed? Thanks! Igor P.S. Also any recommendations on tape drives which would be best for this job wouldn't hurt. I'm looking at these ones: Quantum SuperLoader 3 - LTO-3, Tandberg StorageLoader 1U LTO3, HP 1/8 Ultrium 920 G2 Tape Autoloader, Dell PV 124T Rack Base LTO3 2U Autoloader. --- The information transmitted is intended only for the person or entity to which it is addressed and may contain confidential and/or privileged material.
