Hello, The XP machine I am trying to backup IS on the company domain... Nevertheless, I tried the blog instructions but to no avail. The funny thing is the last time backuppc backed it up was back in May 05. So, the command line I posted must have been working before then; what could have stopped it working? The following is what backuppc shows as XferLOG: Running: /usr/bin/smbclient \\\\MyPC\\C\$ -U john -E -N -d 1 -c tarmode\ full -Tc - /Documents\ and\ Settings Xfer PIDs are now 391,390 session setup failed: NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE session setup failed: NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE tarExtract: Done: 0 errors, 0 filesExist, 0 sizeExist, 0 sizeExistComp, 0 filesTotal, 0 sizeTotal Got fatal error during xfer (No files dumped for share C$) Backup aborted (No files dumped for share C$) I have no idea what this means. The original posting was what I saw when logged on at the server. Any more ideas? I actually just had to hack my way through this problem on Saturday.. let me guess, this is a Windows XP box that's part of a workgroup, not a domain? If so, you'll need to disable 'Simple Sharing' to allow an administrative user to connect to the C$ share. This is done by loading an Explorer window, and go to Tools->Folder Options. Go to the 'View' tab, and scroll all the way down. Uncheck the ‘Use Simple Sharing (Recommended)’ option. I actually had problems finding this, so I ended up posting it to my blog - post is at: http://www.natecarlson.com/blog/2005/09/24/annoying-file-sharing-stuff-with- windows-xp-professional/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------ | nate carlson | [EMAIL PROTECTED] | http://www.natecarlson.com | | depriving some poor village of its idiot since 1981 | ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------- SF.Net email is sponsored by: Tame your development challenges with Apache's Geronimo App Server.
