Even when your computer is part of a domain, it won't let you see the spare permissions? That's weird! Did you disable Simple Sharing? If not, can you see hte perms after you do that?

Also, if its the user failing to logon, then if I set up a new user and make it a backuppc operator, it should work right?

I'm not sure what rights Windows grants Backup Operators.. I've been using users with full admin rights to back Windows boxes up.
